Resources for caregiver employment discrimination

  1. According to their website, the Work Life Law Hotline provides free counseling to caregivers “facing employment discrimination based on their family responsibilities.”  The hotline’s phone number is 1-800-981-9495.
  2. 2009 – 33 page Center for Work Life Law survey of state and local laws protecting caregivers from employment discrimination.  According to the survey, caregiver employment discrimination laws exist in DC, certain counties in MD, and in 21 other states.  The survey does not list any such laws in VA.

Free Caregiver Education Online Videos

A San Antonio-based CCRC is offering free online educational videos for caregivers.  The videos run 10-15 minutes in length, are in English and Spanish, and cover a variety of topics including transfers, dementia and home safety, fall prevention, nutrition, advanced directives, and public benefits.  Users are asked to enter their zip code.

Federal Caregiving Resources Fact Sheet

This new federal CMS and AOA resource fact sheet includes links and descriptions of various caregiver resources including Medicare’s caregiver site, Eldercare Locator, health insurance counseling, long distanced caregiving, and other federal, state, and non-profit programs.
